Ayden is at a daycare place this week. They offer regular daycare, before and after-school care for school age kids and a type of camp format in the summer. This is the place he went to two years ago. He will probably go here once school starts up again rather than the YMCA before and after-school program he was in this year. At the daycare/camp they spend Mon, Wed and Fri at the neighborhood pool that is next to the facility from 9-11 before it opens up to the neighborhood. They go on different field trips, I believe this week they go to a indoor playground and recreation center in Richmond one of the days. The rest of the time is spent doing activities at the facility.
He had a pretty good 1st day and knew some kids that were there along with a best buddy from the neighborhood. He had a great day, but ended up getting into a little trouble towards the end. From what I gathered there was a kid going into the 6th grade. I think he is probably one of the oldest kids at the place, as the kids range from K-6th. The kids are broken up into age groups for outings but are all together for some of the time. This kid, Ayden said, was pickin' on him most of the day. Ayden said at one point the kid threw his own hat and then told Ayden to go get it because he was fat and needed the exercise. Ayden may in deed be fat for his height but he is a fast kid, runs hard all day and when we workout in the basement he is really strong.
During a dodge ball game the kid started taunting Ayden after Ayden got out. Ayden was not taking all of this kids grief and they were face to face for a bit going back and forth. According to Ayden the kid smacked him in the face and Ayden stepped back and clocked him in the head with the ball. They both ended up getting in trouble. We talked with one of the teachers and worked on some other ways to deal with this kid. There is always one, I told Ayden that will push your buttons and each needs to be dealt with differently. I think the fact that Ayden was not letting this kid walk over him got the kid going. Also I don't think it helped that he is 4 years older almost the same height as Ayden. We will see how things go through the week.
